Shoe Fly Popper

Pattern Developed by: Unknown

Hook: #4-8 Mustad 33903
Thread: 6/0
Weedguard: Palmered Hackle
Legs(optional): Rubber Hackle
Body: 3/8" to 1/2" Foam Cylinder from a Foam Sandle (flip-flop)
Tail:
2 - 4 hackles

This is made from a flip-flop that was found in the water. I use a gasket punch to cut out the foam. 3/8" to 1/2"

Most are tied on a kink shank hook (this is one is not) #4-#8 depending on the size of the foam body.

Warp in 2 to 4 hackles letting the tips extend past the bend of the hook about 1-1/2 hook shank length. Cut off all but one
.
Using the best of the hackles Palmer warp the point where you tied in the hackles forward about three to four close wraps. Whip this to hold in place open wrap forward to the eye tie off.

Split a foam body jut past half way in the front to about 1/4" of the way at the back. This is to keep the hook open of foam, for better hooking.

Check the fit forcing the open wrap hackle down with the body. Remove the body.

If you are happy apply a drop of Super Glue to the hook shank top. Open the split and place on the hook, Hold closed for just a minute. Keeping the glue off the fingers... You will see that the extra hackle is now a weedguard.

The foam can be marked with a permanent marker for eyes or you can glue in doll eyes,

I often add Rubber legs using a needle to pull the legs through the body.

Fishing popper style for about any fish you would like to try for. I have take Redfish, blue gills, trout, and l00's of bass.
