Jason's Frog

Pattern Developed by: Jason Tinling

Hook: #2-4 Stinger
Thread: Danville Flymaster+ , white
Weedguard (optional): 50# mono
Legs: Matched hackle, 2 each yellow, white, and green grizzly
Body: Deer hair, stacked and trimmed
Collar:
Olive deer hair, stacked
Eyes: Doll eyes
Other: Chartreuse Estaz, Olive marabou, Kflash, Marine GOOP

Place hook in vise, start thread at barb of hook. If tying with weedguard, place mono on top of hook shank, tag end pointing off of hook. Wrap thread over mono to halfway down bend of hook. Wrap back to tie in and cement thread.

Tie in Estaz, make 2-3 wraps forward. Match hackles in sets of three yellow on the inside, white in the middle, grizzly on the outside. Set curves against each other so that the feathers will "kick" when retrieved. Measure approximately 1.5 - 2x shank length and tie in at end of Estaz. The bump of Estaz will help to splay the hackle.

Cut a dozen full length strands of K Flash. Double over the thread and tie in at Estaz, length should be about 3/4 of the hackle length. Take a full marabou feather, gather the tips, and tie in so that the tips extend just past the end of the hook.

Take a small bunch of cleaned and stacked olive deer hair. Stack on the hook shank and tie in, flaring for the collar.

Alternating stacking clumps of deer hair, any color on the top, white on the bottom. Pack and continue until 2 eye lengths from eye. Take very small clump of bright deer hair (orange, red, etc. and spin for a "nose". Trim deer hair flat on the bottom, in roughly an arrowhead shape. Slope the top of the frog up to the collar.

If using the weedguard, pull mono forward, pass through eye of hook, and double over the hook shank towards the rear of the hook. Tie in tightly and cement. Trim mono as close to thread as possible, let tag push into the deer hair on top.

Cut two small "divots" out of the frog on either side. Fill hole with GOOP and press in doll eyes. Let cure 24 hours before fishing.
